The Sarala Birla Academy is a boarding school located on the outskirts of Bangalore, India. It was started in 2005.It is named after the grand mother of Mr. Kumarmangalam Birla, chairman the Aditya Birla Group.

History and Foundation

The school was started in July, 2008, at this time the aim of the school was to provide the International Baccalaureate Programme, Primary Years Programme for children below 10 – 11 years (up to Grade 5), the Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme, and the IGCSE curriculum for children over 14 and under 16 (Grade 9 to 10) and the IB Diploma Programme for children older than 16 (Grades 11 and 12). And in 2009 they are still providing these curriculum.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

The International Baccalaureate was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968 as a non-profit educational foundation. A group of talented, forward thinking teachers at the International School of Geneva, with assistance from several other international schools, created the IB Diploma Programme. What started life as a single programme for internationally mobile students preparing for university, has today grown into three programmes for students aged 3-19.

The IB works with 2,740 schools in 138 countries to offer the three IB programmes to approximately 755,000 students. The IB encourages a positive attitude to learning by encouraging students to ask challenging questions, to critically reflect, to develop research skills, to learn how to learn and to participate in community service.

Campus

Spread across 67 acres of sprawling, lush greenery. The campus is designed to be self-supporting and self-sufficient in every possible way: equipped with a 100 per cent power backup, 24 hours running water, an 18-bed hospital with a qualified resident doctor, a nurse on call 24 hours a day, and postal facilities.

Houses

At Sarala Birla Academy students belong to one of the four houses, Aditya, Bhaskar, Martand and Vivasvan. Boys at SBA share a healthy competition when ever there are various inter-house competitions.

Clubs

There are a wide variety of co-curricular activities such as public speaking, debate and dramatics, creative writing, eco-club, quizzing, astronomy, dance, photography, philately, trekking, film appreciation and even cookery. It is mandatory for each student at Sarala Birla Academy to be a part of at least one of the clubs.
